Blog

Just been looking through some stats and my blog has had over 500,000 hits since i started tracking it a few years ago. Thats alot of people that have read bad beat stories :-)

I skipped EPT Barcelona, wasn't feeling so good on the morning of the tourney, so thought i'd chill out and enjoy Barcelona. Its definitely in the top three cities in Europe IMO.

Its the WSOPE starting this Friday. Its good to have some decent tournaments just a few miles from home, and i'm sure its an advantage not living out of a hotel room.

Still running at about break even for 5/6 weeks online. If my running bad means breaking even for a while, thats cool. I'm playing a bit smaller just to take it easy for a while.

I also came across somthing funny from theASHMAN103 blog, to quote:

I continue all through the morning very tired and in the mood to just keep running it up. Unfortunately I get stuck $100k in Omaha for the day and lose a ton to this mega clown named Ben Grundy. This hand tilted me to no end just for the sole fact that he wins my stack for playing the hand how he did. Rare monkey species. A hybrid if you will.

LOL whilst i may have got lucky in the hand, his call preflop is so dumb i can see why he is on a close to $1 million downswing. In a six handed game my four bet preflop is nearly always a hand that totally dominates his like AAxx, AKKQ, AKQJ ... if i four bet preflop his AQJ9 hand is ahead less than 10% of the time, and is often completely dominated. As it happened he caught a rare time when he was a slight favourite, but he would rarely have over 30% chance given the action.

Ashman if you think i'm a clown i will play you any day you like $50/$100 Heads Up PLO....

How about you're the clown? Maybe he knows you pretty much play/raise almost any hand?

That may be true but in all action $100/$200 PLO and above its the first time i've four bet pre without AAxx, so i swear i show up with AAxx there 90%+ of the time!

Interesting spat. The preflop action is mind numbing. Once you guys decided you wanted play a monster pot it was always going to end in a bit of a train wreck for one or other of you.

If he flat calls your original raise as it is already HU makes a pot sized bet on the flop he picks up nice few thousand $ pot job done no drama.

Beyond representing a huge hand and then sandbagging him on a low board I am not sure what was going on in your head, but once the 4th bet went in you were abandoning any future leverage on the pot and just placing the outcome in the laps of the poker gods who in this instance smiled upon you.

I know I am just an old rock and I probably do'nt understand the metagame considerations but from the outside the hand looks like out and out madness.

Ben, were you at any time worried that he had some weak AAxx pre or would he just put it all in pre instead of flat calling your 4 bet?

Worried in reference to the flop that is, or do you rule out him having AA.

spoke to you about this hand just after you played it and you found it rather funny then as well. You represented aces, got caught with fingers in the till and got lucky.
No big deal, nothing to see here. Against your range his hand is half dead and he could've and should've given in up pre.

the funny thing for me is how a hand like that can effect someone. He is by his own admission on a million $ losing streak inside a couple of months and is clearly still tilting. I remember a few years back you losing a big pot (for you back then it was huge, think it was about £50k or something) to a one outer on the river and you were devastated but carried on without doing your entire roll.

gl in the main event

No doubt Ashman is not as stupid as you think and is fully aware, as most observors and players at this stake, that Grundy will call, raise and reaise any hole cards! I my opinion he is one or if not the luckiest loose fish on circuit but hey hes running good!

You played aweful Grundy and as so many times before have sucked out! n1 I am sure it'll all come to an end at somepoint! good luck, cause I have a feeling ur gonna need it!
