New Tactics

Now that I have been able to get some serious hours in online and think about my play I have developed a new ultra aggressive preflop tactic in Omaha and so far it has been a huge hit. I am raising with about 40% of hands preflop and calling a lot more before the flop as well. My post flop play is still the same but what my tactic is doing is making it very hard to ever put me on a hand. I am getting paid when I hit more than ever. Hands like 5679 are now an instant raise and sometimes a reraise preflop.

I was so aggressive during one session yesterday on the £2/£5 table that I won 110/330 hands on a full table of ten players. The main thing is that I am trapping players extremely well post flop. Take the hand below. Especially playing short handed I like to be the aggressor…. Raising between 70-80% of hands before the flop. Ok so the example below it is very bad play from my opponent. I have noticed that due to my repetitive raising that I am forcing my opponents into making a lot of mistakes post flop.

In sixteen hours of play this week I am nearly $10000 in profit. I have jumped in to the £10/£20 and broke even but I really don’t need to take the extra risk when things are going so well elsewhere.

I am currently trying to debate whether I should go to the World Series after travelling in Mexico as well….. hmmmmm

Ben,

Things seem to be going well, remember to stay away from the no-limit holdem!

I don't think I'll play betfair, just look at the hand you just posted, milkybarkid dealt 4h and the flop comes down 4h. mmmmmm how far does your association go? That was a joke before I get flamed.

Good Luck

Please stop advertising how soft the omaha game is ben, some of us have bills to pay and don't want the sharks coming in and clearing the fish away. You should have a run at the series mate- strike while your hot.

The Omaha games are soft in most places... Prima, Betfair, Stars and Party all have numerous fish about....

Steve...

Yes i noted that mistake. It was to protect the idenitity of the player as he reads my blog.

Ben,

Do u mean 40% of the hands u play, or 40% of all the hands u are dealt?

cheers

40% of hands that i play.... though i am playing alot more hands than i used to....

You should watch the £10/£20 game when it gets going (normally about 7pm)

Peter Roche won 70k in it in the opening week.

Ben,

The 40% of hands played is a style often used, especially by the dutch and other good players. But. Based on my playing a good chunk of hands online AND getting to see the stats I can say that preflop play is probably the least significant element in a winnning strategy. I have winning players playing less than 30% of hands and raising only a tiny amount. Conversely one well known player plays over 50% and raises maybe 15-20% of *all* his hands. The only thing I would add is that if you are playing much more than 50% of your hands, not including free blinds, then you are *probably* a losing player.

The most important thing about how you play preflop is how you manage that with your flop onwards play. One additional problem is that with the style you are playing you could easily throw off 10 max buyins and be playing perfectly. And a lot more if perfect becomes less so.

Anyway, enuff humbug...play the rush!

Dave...

Just looking at my stats over a long session on a full table i am only seeing approx 20-22% of flops.

I would have always thought that it was post flop play that is more important as that is when the key big hands are won and lost.

The £10/£20 gets going usually at 3pm for a few hours and again in the evening... it depends who fancies a big gamble.

One guy was sitting on the table earlier with £20000 and i think he wiped everyone else out
