Amused again

Another quote from the Poker News on Sporting Life.....

"Some of England's top poker players are: John Falconer; Keith Hawkins, Dave Colclough, Julian Thew, Willie Tann, Dave 'DevilFish' Ulliott - a former jeweller form Hull - just to mention a few."

Hmmmmm.....

This week

The focus is mainly on playing cash online though I will probably venture to pay in the main event at the Gutshot over the weekend. I know when i published my schedule I said I was going to play in more of the events at the Gutshot but I struggle to motivate myself for smaller tournaments. It's not an arrogance thing its just that i just don't seem to try very hard in them and I have grown too used to decent structures of late to play in fast structure tournaments which finish in 1 day. Also, I am not chasing ranking points which would be a reason why I may have been tempted by them.....

I’d also like to thank On Tilt for sorting out my blog problem yesterday. I got myself in to a right mess playing about with the code.

and you think you should be on this list?

you are a cocky little shit.

id like to 2nd that, you, young man need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself to come back to reality.you have had one decentish result in your hobby and you are crying cos ur name isnt on a list with 6 of the top 10 players in the uk [if not europe].you have a long way to go before you may be mentioned in those circles.

At no point does he suggest that he himself should be on the list. It seems to me he is merely questioning the validity of the statement. Perhaps if he told us which of these players he is cynical about and why then we would no longer have to guess for ourselves.

No no no... you have got it completely wrong.... i was just laughing at the selection i would have found it even more stupid if my name had been on there. I wouldn't even put myself anywhere near that list!

Like i posted yesterday when i found a poll amusing about who was the best player in the world out of Moneymaker, Devilfish and Negreanu. It was just the grouping of players of such varying standards that i was commenting on.

FYI anon. A couple of those players would not make my list of the top 10 in England never mind the top 10 in Europe. It depends what you are basing the ranking on? If it was tournaments only yes some of them should definitely be on the list, but if you include cash games then there are much better players who just choose not to play in tournaments.

Anon 2 - Where did i mention that i was annoyed my name wasn't on the list?

By the way. Why are you so scared of posting your name?

Milkybarkid said...

Cheers for that Miros.

As i don't want to offend anyone i will shy away from naming any of those players who i think shouldn't be in the list.

God if i had seen my name in there i would have asked for it to be deleted immediately to avoid embarrassment.

I have played with all those players and just think that classing them in the same category was a comical as the best player in the world Moneymaker/Devilfish/Negreanu poll.

The list seems to be the top English players on the current
tournament rankings list.

As we know, the rankings have no correlation to ability. (see Big Dave D's blog and his article "Another Kind of Russian Roulette")

Hi Keith

Yes i see... just looked on Poker in Europe. Though Gryko is above Devilfish on their list.

I kind of had Big Dave's article in mind when i wrote my blog. People just jump on the bandwagon of, "Player X is such a great player because of this result."

Show me the tournament pro's that have been profitable in the last 5 years when you take away entrance fees and expenses. They are the best players.....

Will see you in Luton no doubt next week. I will try and avoid handing you my chips quite so easily this time ;-)

Seems someone has got a problem with you since your result in Monte Carlo. Suppose you could turn off anonymous comments if they don't bugger off.

As an aside, it might be an idea to go down to the Gutshot to buy in for the main event before Saturday, as they are expecting it to sell out. Last night for the £150 freezeout they suggested I would get a seat if I got there for 7pm, well I got there at 6.45pm, the place was absolutely packed out, and there were 120 runners with 40 alternates!!

I doubt whether some of the people on that list are in the top 10 of their local casino.

Well i had better get down there today and get a ticket. Thanks for the tip off.

I guess i could switch of the anonymous comments but wish i didn't have to.

The original replies seem to have misinterpreted your comment. The question I would like to add Who are you to comment on the ability of these players? What have you ever done?

I agree with the original tag line.

Milkybarkid said...

Well as someone who has played with all them of course I am going to have an opinion on who I think are the better of those players. If you actually read my original post I DIDN’T comment on the ability of any of the players mentioned. I merely found the statement quite amusing...

In the same way as I would have found the following comment amusing if it was written about football. Some of England’s top footballers are, "John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Paul Furlong and Emile Heskey."

Anonymous said...

Ben,

Are the footballers you mention significant?

Are you saying that one of those players is competent enough at his own level, but isn't top class, while the other is just a big overrated donkey?

Not that I'm trying to get you in trouble or anything... ;-)

Milkybarkid said...

Well I was kind of thinking that big Heskey and Furlong were at about the same level. Although I truly believe that Furlong would outscore Emile in Division 1.

Yes Heskey is a big overrated donkey…… Leon Mckenzie for England?

This post seems to have struck a nerve with a few people Ben!!

From what I remember Ben just said 'hmmmmmmmmmm'. Hardly a comment that deserves a comment like "you cocky little shit".

All Ben does hint at is that he doesn't agree with the comment. It doesn't say he thinks he should be on the list, it doesn't say he thinks he knows it all. The fact he opens himself up for public criticism on this blog should be commended, especially by those who choose to remain anonymous.

Ignore the idiots Ben and carry on....

If Andy Johnson can play for England....

Anonymous said...

Chris,

I'm sure you owe me £50 if Leon McKenzie doesn't get capped for England.

Baz

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that's right. I'm confident though. He's been Norwich's third most consistent player this season!

Anonymous said...

And seemingly, he's good enough to score against your pathetic team.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

I'm in full agreement with the last comment!!
